About this course

Generating insights is only part of the analytical process – the ability to communicate them effectively is equally essential. Interactive visualizations and dashboards enable users to explore data, uncover patterns, and support informed decision-making. This course equips participants with the skills to create interactive charts with Plotly and develop web-based dashboards using Dash, transforming analytical results into engaging, accessible, and decision-oriented applications.

While Interactive Data Visualization & Dashboards with Python can be taken as a standalone course, it is the fourth of four Microcredentials leading to the Certificate of Open Studies (COS) in Applied Data Analytics and Visualization.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the principles of interactive data visualization and identify when interactivity enhances data communication
  • Select the appropriate tool – plotly.express or plotly.graph_objects – based on the complexity and requirements of the visualisation
  • Construct interactive charts using Plotly across a range of chart types – statistical, geospatial, and customised
  • Explain the role of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in rendering web content
  • Build interactive web applications using Plotly Dash, defining inputs, rendering outputs, and implementing callbacks
  • Develop web-based data dashboards to communicate analytical insights in an interactive and accessible format
