About this course
The aim of the programme is to develop learners’ systematic understanding of the environmental impact of buildings and construction products throughout a building’s life cycle, and to provide practical skills for calculating carbon footprints, interpreting the results, and making informed economic decisions.
Learning outcomes
- Explains the principles of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for buildings and construction products and applies relevant international standards (e.g., EN 15978, ISO 14040/44).
- Calculates and analyses the carbon footprint of a building across different life-cycle stages using appropriate data sources and software tools.
- Evaluates the environmental impact of construction materials, technologies, and design decisions, and identifies the components with the greatest impact.
- Integrates environmental objectives into construction process management, including technology selection, resource planning, and waste management.
- Develops economically justified proposals for reducing building-related emissions and improving long-term sustainability.
