Introduction to material bonding technology. Bond formation fundamentals. Composition and characteristics of adhesives. Composition and characteristics of wood. Characteristics conferred in preparing wood, plastic and textile substrates. Material geometry factors. Characteristics conferred in applying adhesives. Consolidation. Quality control. Bond performance: testing and evaluation. Guide to troubleshooting Markets for wood. plastics and textile coatings. Primary raw materials for coatings: film formers, binders, resins and polymers. Secondary raw materials for coatings: solvents, additives and colorants. Classification and formulation of coatings. Properties of coatings – testing and characterisation. Students will:

Final assessment can consist of one test/assignment or several smaller assignments completed during the whole course. After declaring a course the student can re-sit the exam/assessment once.
