About this course

Main definitions and concepts in mechatronics, automation and robotics. Mechatronics system, respective structure and design. Mechatronics, automation and robotics applications in industry, service and everyday life. Similarity of nature and artificial systems and principles of mechatronics systems build up. Mechatronics applications in machines, role of materials, mechanisms, use of electronics components, passive and active elements, digital and analog components, system modelling and analysis, structure of machine control systems, controllers, control of motion, hydralic, pneumatic and electrical actuators, drives and their use, sensors and their use and their static and dynamic characteristics. Modelling and simulating. Future trends. Examples of mechatronic software applications in design and control of machines.

NB! This course will take place in spring semester 2025/2026 which starts on 2nd of February and ends on 15th of June (you can find that information under start date section). TalTech's timetables for spring semester 2026 will be published at the beginning of January via tunniplaan.taltech.ee.

Learning outcomes

Knows and orients in main structures of mechatronics, automation and robotics systems and knows respective application areas. Knows main mechatronic and automation systems components and orients in respective basic applications. Knows and is able to evaluate the characteristics of mechatronic and automation system components and the role of different knowledge in design and integration of the components into a whole operational system.

Examination

Final assessment can consist of one test/assignment or several smaller assignments completed during the whole course. After declaring a course the student can re-sit the exam/assessment once.
