About this course
This joint EPFL-TU/e intensive one-week course gives an overview of the main photovoltaic technologies that are currently deployed, covering themes from Physics and Energy, Electric Engineering and Manufacturing and Processing.
On the first day we will give a general introduction into PV and the operating principles of solar cells, and we will present standard crystalline Si cells and their latest improvements. On Tuesday we will continue with the rapidly evolving field of Perovskite solar cells and their integration with other technologies into advanced tandem devices. On Wednesday we will discuss aspects of PV Systems, their energy yield, environmental and financial evaluations, as well as environmental aspects such as life cycle assessment and the CO2 footprint of PV technologies.
Course format: 6 x 45 min lessons on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by independent project work on Thursday and interactive student presentations on Friday.
The course is delivered in hybrid mode with local students attending on campus and EuroTeQ students attending online in real time.
Course dates: 7-11 June 2027 at EPFL in Lausanne. As this is a joint EPFL-TU/e course, the 2nd edition will be offered at TU/e in Eindhoven on 6-10 December 2027 (registration for the December edition will open in summer 2027).
EuroTeQ students may choose to participate online or attend onsite – please check with your home university if funding for travel is available.
