About this course
Explore bio-based technologies for valorization of waste and side-streams. This immersive three-day course provides participants with the knowledge and tools to innovate in the field of sustainable biobased technologies for waste and side-stream valorization. Led by expert instructors from both academia and industry the course covers key concepts in biomass waste conversion, offering practical examples of how to turn waste streams into valuable products. Through a combination of theory, case studies, and hands-on sessions, participants will develop the skills to implement sustainable waste valorization strategies in their industries, driving innovation and sustainability.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, you will be able to identify and analyze different types of biomass wastes and side streams, their composition, and potential valorization strategies. evaluate methods for biomass fractionation, pre-treatment, and enzymatic hydrolysis, design processes: biomass conversion by fermentation, including submerged and solid-state systems, and optimize processes for improved performance, understand biorefinery principles: formulate strategies for total biomass valorization within a biorefinery concept, apply integration techniques: use process integration and intensification to maximize product formation and economic revenues, implement large scale solutions: critically assess and implement bio-based solutions on a large scale.
