About this course
Principles of modelling - model design; model structure and planning; model building; presentation of results; model auditing. Excel tools used in financial modelling and their applications - financial functions (incl. present and future value calculations, investment project appraisal indicators, loan repayment schedule); Goal Seek and Solver; matrix calculations, other functions and pivot tables; analysis toolpack. Modelling of financial plans and company value in Excel - income statement forecasting, balance sheet forecasting; cash flow forecasting; forecasted financial ratios; free cash flow forecasting (FCFF, FCFE); company valuation based on free cash flow, assets and enterprise value multiples. Risk modelling and simulations in Excel. Technical analysis, stock returns, portfolio returns, risk modelling, modelling of interest rates and bond prices.
NB! This course will take place in spring semester 2024/2025 which starts on 3rd of February and ends on 16th of June (you can find that information under Start date section). The real course start and end dates will be announced at the beginning of February at the latest.
Learning outcomes
The student:
- has an overview of financial modelling principles, financial modelling tools and their application possibilities in the context of finance problems;
- is able to apply financial modelling techniques in practice.
Examination
Final assessment can consist of one test/assignment or several smaller assignments completed during the whole course. After declaring a course the student can re-sit the exam/assessment once.
