About this course
Historic overview of electric transportation and development stages. Development problems and current level of electric transportation. Electric traction drives. Traction machines, classification, technical properties and main characteristics. Combination of traction machines and gearing mechanisms. Converters used in electric transportation, electric schematics, technical properties. Electric and hybrid vehicles. Urban electric transportation (trams, metro, trolleys, funiculars, busses, etc.). Long haul electric transportation (passenger and cargo trains, magnetic levitation trains). Industrial electric transportation devices. Electric light vehicles. Charging of electric vehicles. Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G). Electrical supply systems of electric transportation, modelling. Connecting electric transportation to the grid. Influence of electric transportation to the grid.

Learning outcomes
The student:
- understands and describes the classification of traction drives and electric vehicles, their constructions and components;
- understands and analyzes usage possibilities of electric transportation devices, their technical and economic properties;
- associates and analyzes different electrical drives components, considering their operational characteristics.
- model and simulate static and dynamic properties of traction drives as well as simulate operation of traction drives using appropriate software;
- model and simulate electrical supply systems of electric transportation, their characteristics, modelling peculiarities and principles of connecting with the grid;
- assesses the influences of electric transportation to the grid.
- understands and analyzes principles and factors associated with electrical transport and logistics.
Examination
Final assessment can consist of one test/assignment or several smaller assignments completed during the whole course. After declaring a course the student can re-sit the exam/assessment once.
