Biomedical Microelectromechanical Systems (BioMEMS)

IEE1860
Electrical Engineering

Over deze cursus

The course consists of 4 modules, which are:

  1. Basic theory and prototype fabrication (fluid mechanics, structural materials, rapid prototyping etc.)
  2. Advanced theory, simulations and digital twins, advanced fabrication and mass production (multiphase flows and droplet microfluidics, materials and methods used in mass production etc.)
  3. Sensors and actuators, networks and adaptive automation (sensor and actuator types and working principles, relevant standards to networking etc.)
  4. Applications in research and industry (analytical and diagnostics applications, case studies of commercial products and future perspective)

Each module is followed up by a seminar where students present a mini-review on topics related to the modules. Each module also has corresponding labs that help put knowledge gained during lectures into practice.

NB! This course will take place in autumn semester 2024/2025 which starts on 2nd of September and ends 26th of January (you can find that information under Start date section). The real course start and end dates will be announced at the beginning of September at the latest.

Leerresultaten

After the course the student:

  • possesses the necessary theoretical foundation (basics of fluid mechanics, simulations, principles of fabrication etc.);
  • understands the working principle of BioMEMS devices (sensors, actuators, their networks and the underlying technology);
  • is able to design and fabricate BioMEMS prototypes for research;
  • understands the experimental applicability and measurement methodology of BioMEMS and be capable to continue independent specialization in the field.

Toetsing

Final assessment can consist of one test/assignment or several smaller assignments completed during the whole course. After declaring a course the student can re-sit the exam/assessment once. Assessment can be graded or non-graded. For specific information about the assessment process please get in touch with the contact person of this course. For specific information about grade transfer please contact your home university

Voorkennis
